The Dark Angels are a come and go crew. They create then disappear like street art. Their works exist in fragments, particles that float, dust motes that spin before the wind that blows them to faraway places. They are individuals that work as one. Deep as oceans, as impenetrable as the night. Art urchins and poets, they dissolve before they form. They are the Dark Angels, they are discharge. They are a bloody mouthful.

"The thoughts of a sage are like burnt rope."

~ Ramana Maharshi said something to that effect. Maybe that's why I like shadows.
That seemed to make better sense when I was sketching this afternoon.

Regardless of whether the tangent has become unclear to you, the overall sensibility remains.

I couldn't pretend to articulate what this piece elicited in me (it would take far more time to mull it over) however, 'feel' that I understand the piece.

Pencil sketches penetrate me to the core. I don't know what the actual dimensions of this piece are but was thrilled at opening it up to full size (as scanned). Ultimately, I revel in the grass roots beauty of pencil. I see every stroke and am reminded of the drawing lessons from my youth. Some of the techniques you use are familiar but you have added your own signature strokes which speak volumes.

What can I say? I'm a sucker for the 'old school' technique. I LOVE exploring the lines and you haven't failed to draw me into every detail of the apparent lightness of the technique... and everything in embodies.

Great concept. WONDERFUL drafting skills! The thoughts of sages are, for me, like this. The subject seems simple. Decoding simplicity into beautifully crafted lines is like a metaphor for the overall illusion being created from an eye for detail...

love it A. Decker and I could use a seismograph to record the details of your lines and vibrations, the light and shadows, the paint and the blank!

Ruela,

Thank you, thank you. Glad I could finally pitch in.

Iryna,

Thank you. I really appreciate how much you got into this little sketch, and relish your words--more than I can articulate.

Would you be shocked to learn that it's actually done with a cheap Bic ballpoint pen? On a 3.5"x5" sketchpad. ;-)

All the more respect for your technique, AD! I thought you were using an H4 or H5!

The bold assurance of the lines are magnificent. Aside from enjoying this as a conceptual piece I'm utterly gobsmacked/envious of your fundamental skills...

Ultimately, the magnified version here would be fairly proportionate to the actual dimensions.

Great concept; bold and assured execution.

Just to reiterate, I really love it!
